Revival Tabernacle

Revival Tabernacle had a humble beginning. When the Lord spoke to Pastor Johnson to go plant a church in a place called Bugongi in Kabale, Uganda, it was not going to be so easy. The place was filled with all sorts of evil people: drunkards, thieves, witch doctors, street children, prostitutes and drug addicts.

Because of this situation many adults and youth died of diseases like AIDS and malaria leaving behind so many children. These children would grow up into thieves, street children and prostitutes, and most of the girls would become mothers at the age of 14 and give birth to children with no responsible fathers. This cycle would continue.

This reduced to utter poverty the land that already had no specific income. Children suffered most of all with the pain of hunger, sickness and hopelessness. Many children had no place to call home and had no hope of going to school. With frustration most children would run to the streets to beg for food and feed from garbage bins. Others were doing forced labor to earn a living. Girls were the most affected; they would be forced to sleep with men to get food and money.

God sent us into this hopeless and very poor village to transform it. We started with 10 people. We preached Christ to our community, and later God connected us with Africa Renewal Ministries and other friends who helped us to minister the love of Christ to this hurting village. We started to feed the hungry and send a few children to school, and soon the community began to turn to Christ. They forsook witches and alcohol and started to come to church.

Today Revival Tabernacle has a membership of 300 adults and over 400 children. The community has been transformed. Witch doctors have relocated because of the power of God through our church after one witch doctor died who dared to fight against us with his witches! Former prostitutes are now believers in Christ. Most bars have since closed down and some turned into grocery shops. Government leaders have come to our church to appreciate the work God has done in the community through our church. Thieves breaking into people’s houses and murder cases in the community are now history! There is peace and joy in the community which we don’t take for granted but give all the glory to God!
